PARABENS

PARABENS

For a couple of years now, both companies and consumers have been shifting away from products containing parabens. But what exactly are parabens, and why the growing aversion to them?

What Are Parabens?

Parabens are preservatives commonly used in cosmetics, especially those with water content. They help prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and extend the shelf life of products. They are cheap and effective at their job.

Why the Concern?

Despite their usefulness, parabens have come under scrutiny due to their potential to mimic estrogen, a hormone in the body. This mimicry can disrupt the endocrine system, which regulates hormones. While more research is needed, this potential risk has raised alarm bells.

Regulation in Europe vs. the US

The European Union has taken proactive steps by banning certain types of parabens and imposing strict regulations on others. In contrast, the United States has no such bans, leaving consumers concerned about potential risks associated with their use.

With this being said, We opt for paraben-free alternatives. While preservatives are important, there are much safer, better-researched effective preservative systems available. These alternatives can provide the necessary protection without the potential risks associated with parabens.
